We have recently started running the gamma test of B news 2.10 here. As a result I've started noticing how many people are truncating the names of newsgroups in their postings. Please note the following warning: News 2.10 no longer truncates newsgroup names at 14 characters. What does this mean to you? Spell out the name in its entirity. It's net.unix-wizards, net.sport.hockey, net.sport.baseball, etc. See alb's active news group list in net.news. What happens if you don't spell out the name? Not too much at present. Your article doesn't get sent to Western Canada is all (or if you're in Western Canada, it doesn't get sent to the U.S.). As more and more sites convert to 2.10, your articles will travel less and less distance before they get discarded.
