[comp.sys.amiga] DevKit Arexx scripts recommendation

johnl@tw-rnd.SanDiego.NCR.COM (John Lindwall) (01/20/90)

Anyone out there who has Manx C and CygnusEd Pro should get a package
of Arexx scripts called DevKit. (Actually, any editor with an Arexx port
will do, but you'll have to modify the scripts.)

Peter Cherna built the package and I ma very impressed! Thanks to Peter
for the hard work he put into this PD project! I love it!

What is it? With Devkit you can build an "integrated environment" with
your compiler and editor.  You are editing your C file and need to compile;
no problem! Just hit F1 (or whatever) and an Arexx script is called that
compiles the current file! If any errors are found a window pops up giving
the error and the cursor moves to the error location. More errors? No
sweat, hit another function key and the cursor jumps to the next! Just like
Turbo-C on the PC -- but better of course because we are multitasking.

Other scripts allow looking up function calls in the AutoDocs (!), looking
up structs/defines in the header files, commenting & uncommenting a block,
setting the script bit (for those who haven't upgraded to CED II).

The Lookup scripts are great! For example, say you forgot the arguments
to BltBitMapRastPort(). (of course I never do! :> ) Hit a function key,
and seconds later the AutoDoc entry for BltBitMapRastPort() pops up in a new
view! LookupHeader is similar.

Look for it on BBS's. It's been around for a while. On the MouseTrap in
San Diego (464-2134) it is called DEVKIT.ZOO.

My only problems with it were minor: apparently some of the status codes
returned by CED have changed from version I to II. No big. I had to
replace occurences of 'RESULT' with 1.

Well done.
