[comp.sys.amiga] Beast question

All right, so I get the weapon from the fire-breathing so-and-so, and I
go back up to confront the Big Jaw monster and the Totem dude.  I fire
and fire.  The Jaw monster flashes.  I comes at me for the third and
final time.  I hit it 15 times.  It kills me.

Am I missing something that I do not want to wait 4 months to learn about?
