I have a few questions. First of all, I noticed that, with the advent of WB 1.3, that there are numerous switches for color printing in the Preferences settings. Now, normally I would try out all the combinations of these myself and see how they affect the screendumps, but I have noticed that for pictures, I have used up 1/2 a ribbon on only 6 pictures (Okimate 20 and color ribbon). If I try to test out all the options and their various combinations, I could go through 2-3 ribbons. So I am hoping that someone out there can tell me what the effect of these options are. The latest Compute!'s Amiga Resource or Antic's Amiga + (cannot recall which) states that these options can have DRASTIC effects on printer output, even making it look as though your output is from a more expensive printer. Now as to my Okimate 20 questions. First of all, let me say that I compared the color output of this printer with a $6000, that's right, $6000 Tektronix wax-transfer printer. Let me say that I am IMPRESSED with how well the Okimate 20 output compares with the Tektronix. The driver for the Okimate is apparently better, since the colors for the pictures I used (from DBWRender) were more accurately portrayed by the Okimate. In fact, if NOT for the white lines between wax strips, I would have to say that the Okimate actually holds its own with the Tektronix. I still cannot get rid of these gaps. And I also noticed that, at least for my printer, on a given strip of wax on a uniform color background, that there is a dark to light gradation from top to bottom. This makes the boundary between strips much more noticeable, since the light part of one strip is right next to the dark part of the next strip. Has anyone seen this before? If so, any suggestions as to what to do? Now to my problem. I am using Photon Paint to print the images. However, the output image has 2 problems. One is that you can see the pixels in the print just as they appear on the screen. I know that it is possible to have an image "take on" the resolution of the output device (for instance, printing text from a monitor onto a laser printer results in output text with a 300 dpi resolution, not 640x480 or some such number). How do I get the Amiga to do this? Someone said that this is typical for a "screen dump", but I am using the Print option of a paint program. Finally, my output image size is TOO small. I get an image whose width is the width of the paper (minus margins) but whose length (top to bottom) is less than half the paper. What gives? I assume that the aspect ratio of the image is being preserved. If this is true, HOW CAN I GET THE IMAGE TO PRINT WITH A 90 DEGREE ROTATION SO THAT IT TAKES UP THE ENTIRE PAGE????? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Scott Sutherland sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu
