[comp.sys.amiga] Give me Amiga or give me death?

jhc00614@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (01/24/90)

I'm overgeneralizing, but it seems to me that the Amiga net gets more
that it's fair share of, "Amiga, it's a goddamn awesome computer that's
multitasking, etc...... but NOBDOY knows about it, NOBODY respects it,
etc......
Well, I don't know about you guys and I hope I'm not alone, but the
only thing I can say is so what? Before you flame, let me explain.
I do my share of Amiga proselyting. If computers are being discussed,
I mention it. If people are considering buying a computer, I steer them to
the Amiga. I'm more than happy to show interested parties, the Amiga and
brag about my system and what it can do to the next fellow.
What I won't do, is lose any sleep or let my heartbeat go to the max. and
let my barbs come out talking over things like CBM's poor management for the
nth time, or the future of the Amiga, or some other computer new kid on the
block that will blow the Amiga out of the water....
I think most people bought the Amiga system because it was a lot of bang,
for a hell of a price. Things like the Amiga don't come too often, but when
they do, you go for it. But, 10 years from now, so what? If Amiga's aren't
around or if they are the "best thing since indoor plumbing", so what? They'll
be something else to take it's place.
I thought the Apple // back in the late 70's was great. All that POWER!
(at the time) and color to boot. Pretty good when competition like S-100's
had to have boards slapped in. I thought I'd be loyal to the day I die, but
things change. A few years from now, maybe Amiga will still be the talk of
the town, maybe not. But, there definitely will be something to talk about
and if it's not the Amiga, then it'll be something else, and so what?
When I bought the Amiga, I didn't sign a contract of lifelong loyalty. As
long as CBM comes out w/ a product like the Amiga and keeps it up to date and
viable, I'll buy. If not, my money is committed to them no more than anybody
else. My dad may keep buying Buicks to the day he dies, but I sure won't.
                                 Later,
                                 Jason
p.s. I'm not really looking to start a back and forth flame argument, so
please don't be surprised if I don't respond to any. I just wanted to
put in my two cents worth since nobody else seemed to have taken up
      a similar position.
