Well, I too bought a Quantum 105 MB 3.5" SCSI ProDrive from Abel for $721. It arrived the next day. I had forgotten how many problems others had had with Abel. Anyway, the drive came in an anti-static package, inside one of this thick paper bags, inside a box full of styrofoam peanuts -- with no documentation of any kind and no cable. This significatly adds to the complexity of the problem of getting one working. I scooped up all the necessary information, fortunately, but the prep command would just hang (A2090 controller). Finally I discovered that the drive was strapped to be SCSI drive 6. After strapping it for drive 0 instead, it worked. I just thought I'd post this so others would not think this was a totally easy thing to do -- it wasn't, and it might be worth some extra $$ to a store or something to get the thing and get it installed and working. There are three other jumpers on the drive, and if anyone knows what they do, please let me know. For anyone else who might get one, I have some mountlist entries for you. As I understand it, SCSI doesn't use head, track and sector in requests but rather maps the sectors to an integer sector number from 0 to N. Nonetheless, you need something for your mountlist. I saw the ad for the Centaur CSI 6100 autoboot card for the A2090 in AmigaWorld (Feb '90). Excited, I called them up.. to hear someone that couldn't speak much English or knew what I was talking about. I called up Creative Computers, they said they had it in stock, and would send it FedEx (Ordered Monday), I received it Friday (Is that considered overnight/next day service?). It's a small (2" x 6" card) that fits in a slot ('slot-waster'). A custom screen shows instead of the dated hand. I *DID* have to re-format my drive, regardless of what the manual (8 pages) said.. no biggie, it was backed up. It works (knock wood) flawlessly! I **LOVE** Having an AUTOBOOTING hard drive (which can be shut off with the left mouse button on boot) Very nice design, well implemented, but cost a little much.. $99+8 ship. That brings us to $300+330+108=$738 over 2.5 years for a 40 meg autobooting drive.. shoulda waited.. na. No Connections, just a ground wire here! Daniel Richardson RIT- Mechanical Engineering Dept. I had the same problem recently with Creative Computer's FedEx "Overnight Service". After not receiving my order for a couple days, I called them up to learn that it takes them 48 hours to process orders. After that 48 hour processing period, your order will come Overnight. I bought a A2091 and thought I would have a hard time setting it up. Nope. I plugged the drive in. Turned on the computer and followed the very clear instructions in the manual and had it up and formatting in 10 minutes. (I did have several problems later but they were all user stupidity errors) I did some Diskperf tests and I got 650K per second off the HD. I would recomend the A2091. I have my drive mounted right on the card. Works great! Ian Smith <ims103@psuvm.bitnet>

I've been trying to call their # for about 3 weeks now, and it's always busy. That's the ONLY reason I stooped to Creative to get the Autoboot card. I did business with them once before, and after THAT, said that I wouldn't ever again (4+ weeks to get back my optical mouse, after a SWAP!). Circumstances beyond my control. Is Go Amigo out of business? If so, too bad... they are <were> the best! Daniel Richardson Rochester Institute of Technology Mechanical Engineering
