[net.music] Canadian bands, U-Know awards

BACKGROUND FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THE U-KNOW AWARDS ARE:
Every year, Toronto radio station CFNY sponsors the U-Know awards.
It started out as sort of a spoof of the Juno awards, Canada's version of
the Grammy awards, but it's now pretty serious. Awards are given in the
same categories as the Junos, plus possibly a few more, but the winners
are picked by CFNY listeners and readers of a couple of Toronto magazines
instead of the academy or whoever picks the Juno winners. It's usually a
pretty good indication of "where it's at" with respect to good Canadian
music.

THE ACTUAL BODY OF THE ARTICLE:
I was very disappointed with, and I violently disagree with the
choice of The Parachute Club as album of the year and group of the year.
How they can give these awards to a one-hit wonder with a lousy album that
has only one good song (the hit, "Rise Up") when they were up against the
best album ever made by a Canadian group, "Talkback", done by the most
improved group of the year of any nationality, The Spoons, is beyond me.
Obviously not enough people have given "Talkback" a good listen.
