I have just set-up uucp V1.00D from Matt Dillon and have the following problem: I can send and receive mail and news, but the files remain compressed in the spool directory. In looking at the docs, I appear to have jumped through all of the set-up hoops. The files get where they are supposed to, but they don't get uncompressed. I am using a hard drive, 1.5 meg of memory, WSShell 1.2 (very nice) and most of the ARP 1.3 commands, if any of that makes any difference. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. -- ************************************************************************ Bill Hogsett CLEVELAND AREA-AMIGA USERS' GROUP ncoast!bill (216) 292-4404 (BBS) ncoast!wfhami!bill 20876 Almar Dr. Shaker Heights, OH 44122 I get paid for my legal opinions, but

Two things: Until I recompiled rnews060.c with the -v option, I was getting stack overflow erros on load attempts. Try recompiling rnews... After that, I found rnews would not run from uucico because of memory shortage on my 1.5 meg machine. So I ran it from the command line and it worked find. Am about to try recompiling bothe uuxqt and uucico with the -v option... Having some fun now.... Hmm.. it is possible that rnews and anews require larger stacks, if only because I forgot to go through the source and check for extravegant usage. However, all other programs will run with a stack of 8192. I forgot to put in a stack command in the sample startup. I didn't realize until now how much memory rnews takes, sorry about that! As you surmised, this must be why you have had decompression problems and why running it manually appears to work. I was assuming that the decompress was 14 bits but apparently it is 16 bits. One other bug (fixed in 1.01) is that most programs refer to UUCP:LIB instead of UULIB: ... not a biggy, just put your lib in UUCP: (you can assign the other directories away). This is why I always delay before doing a non-ftp release. -Matt

I really like the Dillon/Loftus UUCP 1.00D distribution. I now have mail distribution of the Amiga groups, which I then batch up for the Cleveland Amiga User's Group with an AREXX macro. I have two problems with the UUCP. First, I can't figure out how to setup the mail aliases properly. I am getting multiple copies of my mail. The relevant aliases look like this: # # User # # send mail for foo to foo and also archive it. #bill: \bill, >uumail:bill1 wfhami!bill: \bill, >uumail:bill2 wfhami.UUCP!bill: \bill, >uumail:bill3 bill@wfhami.UUCP: \bill, >uumail:bill4 I have tried numerous versions of these (I have been home with the flu) and have concluded that I don't understand what I am doing so I'll never get it right. This arragement usually results in two copies of mail to me. Other variants got anywhere from 0 to 4 with some wild ones (recurive aliases) getting 20 or so. Any help would be appreciated. The second problem is more confusing. I can't postnews using PostNews which came with the UUCP 1.00D. The message looks like it is composed properly and shows up in my spool directory and when the uucico connection is made is sent, but then it goes into the bit bucket to never be seen again. Any ideas? Please followup to wfhami!bill. I like getting mail and right now I get at least two of every messages. :-) -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bill Hogsett CLEVELAND AREA-AMIGA USERS' GROUP (CA-AUG) ncoast!bill ncoast!wfhami!bill (216) 292-4404 (BBS) 20876 Almar Drive Shaker Heights, OH 44122 I get paid for my legal opinions, but 216-295-1624 I'd really rather talk about my Amiga.
