I am seeking to replace my trusty (but aging) Whister RE-55XK radar detector with a newer superhet model. I have 'road-tested' the Whistler Q1000 and Q1000 remote, but found that they 'falsed' too often for my taste (lots of factories and banks use radar alarms). I would be interested in knowing which models people like (or don't like), and if I get enough information, I will post a followup on net.auto. PLEASE mail your replies to me..... Thanks. Radar detectors are illegal in many states, and the proper match of your detector to the local cops radar system is likely to make a cheap one a waste of money. Destruction of public property (IF the tin foil wrecks the cops radar gun) is probably going to get you in trouble. And I suspect that with tin foil all over you bumpers, you won't be hard to spot after the radar goes phssts in the cop car. My best guess for how it would REALLY affect the radar would be that the tin foil would flutter in the turbulence of the car and the doppler off the very radar visible foil would give highly inaccurate speed readings on the radar gun. Like the old story about the tree doing 80 mph in a breeze. BUT, why are we talking about illegalities on the net? And why in net.general. Please lets can this discussion before it starts! ----GaryFostel----
