[comp.sys.amiga] EA and Byte by Byte will continue to support the Amiga

evgabb@sdrc.UUCP (Rob Gabbard) (02/06/90)

I started becoming concerned after reading all of the claims about Electronic
Arts and Byte-by-Byte dropping Amiga support. So, this morning I called both
of their technical support lines.

Byte-by-byte stated that the current development was being done on the
Mac but the Dr. Gramm(sp?) had no intentions of dropping Amiga support.

I got ahold of someone at EA who seemed to be real Amiga knowledgable.
He said that the only changes regarding on the Amiga were the phasing out of
DMCS, Deluxe Productions and some of the older games (7 Cities of Gold was the
only one I remember). On DMCS, he said that it never went over real well and
that they were not working with Jeff Brown anymore. He also said they were
moving some of the UK titles over here.

OK, everyone sit back and go .... WHEW :-)

Comments about EA not supporting DMCS anymore, as it never went over very
well and they have no dealings with the author anymore.

They should be flamed. The reason was that DMCS was a buggy piece of cr*p.
If they had put the enhancements of the MAC v2.5, and kept pace with current
amiga technology, they would have sold a lot more. I suspect there is a big
market for a traditional music program that uses the amiga's voices,
especially the education market.

This seems to be about 180 degrees off from what is going on on GEnie. EA is
activily asking for users opinions on what an upgrade to DMCS should included.
EA sounds VERY interested in updating this program and is getting good response
from users on GEnie. I wouldn't be suprised if they are doing the same thing on
CompuServe. I've been on CIS for a whole week now and haven't seen anything
but I could have missed it. It hardly sounds like EA is phaseing DMCS out yet,
but like everything else we should probably wait and see it before believing
it.

Well, the news about BbB's continued Amiga support from Doc Graham is
good. E/A's dropping of Deluxe Productions is okay too, since the program
was a dog. But dropping DMCS!?!? Oh Hell! What's wrong with E/A?
What happened to "We See Farther"?? Guess they don't realize how many
folks out there are waving money in their general direction and waiting
for an upgraded DMCS. There are a LOT of people using the program andthere
are HUNDREDS of excellent DMCS scores in the public domain. The program
needs some better memory management and general tightening but its
market has NOT dried up. Wouldn't take Geoff Brown to do an update
either, if E/A owns the code. Impulse's Turbo Silver was upgraded
by a totally different guy than he who originally wrote it.. probably
wasn't much fun working from someone else's notes but it was done and
it's a hot seller and works great with lots of improvements in the
most recent "SV" version.

So, a bit wet raspberry FOOEY on E/A.. I'm gonna run F/18 Interceptor
and zoom down Pacific Coast Highway to San Mateo and blast your building
a few times for some therapy now.

Most professional music packages (like Music-X) allow the use of the
Amiga voices as instruments.

I guess they also didn't notice B.B. King using DMCS in the Commodore ads...
