I hate buying stuff that will only run off the floppy (like shadow of the beast). If I wanted slow access times I wouldn't have bought the hard drive. Could people email me a list of software/games that they have bought or are familiar with and what sort of copy protection they have and I'll try to summarize and post to the net what I get. I think we have a few catagories here. 1) You stick the floppy in and the machine says "Huh?" Is that a floppy or bubble gum you stuck in there. (shadow of the beast fits in this catagory) You have to boot off this floppy. 2) The machine will recognize the floppy but if you try to copy the contents to the hard disk it just won't run from the hard disk even with an appripriate assign command (maybe they hard coded df0: somewhere) (I bought kinderama for my kids, it seems to do this) 3) You can copy the stuff and it will run but you must have the floppy in the drive so it can grope around to find it. (SimCity and Defender of the Crown falls in this catagory) 4) They give you a sheet with some cryptic numbers on it that you have to enter at random each time you start the thing. (My 3 year old always has a good time with this since she can't read numbers yet) Ninja turtles has this. 5) The stuff will copy OK. (I bought Phasar 4.0 and I can easily install it) I'm sure there is software which doesn't exactly fit in any of these catagories so just send a note as to what has to be done. Please don't flame me about copy protection. I would just like to know what I'm getting before I buy it. I have tried asking at the store but the salespeople don't always know. -- Ken Dalka (Bell Labs) att!ihlpz!dalka IH 4H-416 (312) 979-6930
