I have seen a lot of articles on the net about the trade-in offer. Here are my reasons for not trading my trusty A1000. A2000 ........ $1,000 (after trade) Memory (1.5M) $ 200 (needed to match my present 2.5M on 1000) HD controller. $ 300 (needed for my current 80 Meg SCSI) Total $1,500 What do I end up with after spending $1,500, a machine very similar to my present A1000!!!! Another way to look at this is to but A200HD (say Mont. Grant) for about $2,000. THAT IS for only $500 more I can end up with 2 of every thing. (two cpus, two hard drives, similar memory) Hmmm... If I really want to make use of A2000, I still need to spend a whole lot more. I guess the thing I would want most would be Flicker Fixer + Multisync ...... $1,000 Bridge Card $ 500 68030 Accel. Brd. ............ $1,600 (Depend on memory) Total.......... .......$3,100 The day I can spend $4,600 ($3,100 + $1,500) on a computer, I can certainly come up with another couple of hundred dollars to buy a 2000 without worrying about the benefits of a trade in. So there... There is one issue of support here. i.e. Is Commodore going to support A1000, Well they have supported it for the last three years I have owned the machine (granted the support could have been better, but it could have been whole lot of worse, e.g. they could have gone under like many of the vendors I bought some stuff for A1000). For someone who has a lot of money invested in a system which is very A1000 oriented like you do, it obviously doesn't make sense to trade up. For me on the other hand who has just a simple A1000 system, I will not lose much by upgrading to the 1000. Since my 1000 is not expanded too much, I want to upgrade now to take advantage of the large variety of new products being released for the 2000. That is my view. +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | // AA M M I GGGGGG AA | | Parker J.
