Since others were wondering, I will post the most interesting response
to my query:
All "- (nf)" means is that the article passed thru (or orignated at) a
system running notes (an alternative to readnews, postnews...). It is
not something you would want to put in your header. Notes may not
keep putting it on, either, in the future.

P.S. It can also be used in net.jokes to mean "not funny" to enable users
to skip over stupid jokes.
