Recent developments in the the Governmental Acquisition Office have led to the very distinct possibility that the Air Force contract with Apple/Honeywell will be overturned. The contract called for between 10,000 and 80,000 Macs (i think the cxi and se??) be delivered over the next 5 years (total award about $137 million). One of the restrictions of the contract as that the machine of choice "...be able to run at least 10 operations at the same time." and while the Unix end of the proposed apples could do it, the Mac itself could only run 1 Mac operation at one time. The organization that keeps tabs on these things (the GAO I believe) has recommended that the contract be put out for rebid. Hopefully with the advent of the new governmental office at CBM, they will take full advantage of this opportunity, (although I doubt the Air Force has many 1000's to trade in :-)). Here's hoping our beloved Amigas grow wings and learn to fly. :-) Regards, George Gibeau -- UUCP: ucqais.uc.edu!ggibeau BBS: (513) 721-7977 GT NODE: 006/005 US Snail-Dept of Biology ML 06, University of Cincinnati, Ohio 45221 ---I mean what I say, and I say what I mean------ -----BUT, not at the same time!
