Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but ...
ok. I've read a lot in c.s.a.* about dnet, and ftp'd it just recently.
The problem is I can't figure out from the docs exactly what it is
and isn't capable of. Maybe wiser heads out there (listening, Matt?)
can help. Here's my system specs, in brief:
- Amiga :-)
- connected over terminal server (hardwired, NO modem)
at speeds of up to 38.4 kB to our cluster; the only UNIX
machine I have an account on is a Sequent Balance
running Dynix
- in my room, one of my roommates also has an Amiga,
also connected to the server
From what I've read, reasonable expectations seem to be:
- running an Apple(ugh)share-like system where my amiga
can access files in my jarthur account
- assuming the near-future addition of a hard drive to
my system, that my roommate can somehow access it from his
computer.
Pipe dreams? I hope not. If dnet won't do what I'm talking about, is there
something that will? For free? The hardware's in place, and I work for
Computing Services and know I can have some rein to experiment if something
funky can be done over the server (we're already working on campus-wide
Populous tourneys over the server), so feel free to be wild and crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Try using my parnet file system if you want your roommate to be able
to get to your hard disk. It mounts like any other device (Mount NET:)
and then he will be able to use regular DOS commands to transfer files
via the parallel port or, using DNET, the serial port.
