A few weeks ago I bought a SUPRA-RAM 2MB extension board for my A2000. I ran the memory-test for a few hours without any indications of errors, and plugged it in. My Amiga has a A2090A hard-disk controller and a NEC D3146H Hard disk. It is a Revision 6-machine equipped with the new Fatter Agnus chip. Perhaps I should also mention that it's a PAL-machine. Before I installed the Supra RAM, everything worked just fine. But only a few minutes after I installed it, I started getting software errors, and a lot of GURUs. Then, I was told that one of my partitions had a Read/Write Error. After a few more Read/Write errors, I decided to reformat my entire HD. No problems there, but after booting up my machine, it took only a few seconds until I got another GURU. This seemed so strange to me that I decided to boot from floppy, and only run programs from my floppy. Everything worked great. But as soon as I tried to access my Hard Disk, I got a GURU. Maybe not on the first try, but soon enough. Even more mystified, I removed the Supra RAM, tested it again (no errors), and booted up without it. Everything worked perfectly. I installed the RAM again -> GURU after a few reads on the hard disk. Now I'm really confused. It seems as if there is nothing wrong with the RAM-board. It works as long as I'm not using the hard disk. The controller/ disk workes fine as long as I don't use the RAM-board. My only possible lead was that there is supposed to be some kind of a bug with the Rev 6.0 and 6.1 motherboards that somehow screwes up second-party hardware. Well, I took my machine to the local Commodore-dealer, and he did the required modifications. Things looked pretty bright in the store when we tested things, but after 10 minutes at home the GURUs came back. Does anybody know anything about this, or have any suggestions on how to solve this problem? I don't even know where to start looking. Please E-mail any answers to me, since I only sporadically get the Amiga news on the net. I think you have identified the problem as the REV 6.0 motherboard. I too have such a beast and was forced to buy TWO disk controllers since the Hardframe would NOT work with the 6.0 motherboard. My Supra works fine. I have been told that some memory expansion card will not work as well. As for getting it updated at the dealer, CBM and others tell me that it is NOT RECCOMENDED and that a motherboard replacement is required. However, good luck in getting it done in Europe. I have contacted the Belgian Commodore office(no real reply) and Commodore in Braunsweig Germany. I STILL do not have an answer as to how I can get my motherboard replaced. As far as I am concerned, it is a FIASCO for those of us who have the problem. CBM has a LONG way to go before their support over here is a level that can be called "professional" Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. -- Jim Sanchez {sun, hplabs}!sytek!syteke!jim OR Hughes LAN Systems, Brussels uunet!prlb2!sunbim!syteke!jim
