About 2 or 3 months back I saw several postings regarding problems with seagate drives being over lubricated (or something similiar) which caused them to stop spinning.. Well after a major hard drive crash on my st-138 st-506 drive all my problems have been (slowly) beginning again. A brief history of events follows (to hopefully make clear what has been happening) HardWare: Amiga 2000 A-2090a hd controller Seagate ST-138 3 1/2" Hd Two drives, monitor, etc.. 1.) Hard Drive was reported to not be validated (I could read from but not write to the drive) 2.) After shutting down (I normally keep my amy on all the time) the drive refused to do anything. The hd light was on but the drive was not spinning.) 3.) Took the hd apart and it again worked but was not validated. 4.) (I decided I couldn't fix it, so I best back things up, something I hate to do.) Files and directorys started to disapear and reapear. 5.) Again, for some unknown reason the drive began to work again, but was just not validated. 6.) I quickly backed up the drive while I had the chance and reformated. 7.) A week later it has begun to stop spinning and is reporting that it is not validated (although the drive still operates normally most of the time.) 8.) Typed this article in ced (geesh, that isn't really important is it?) I am assuming that the problem is with the hd itself and not anything caused by software. Therefore I am also assuming that the problem I had read about (over lubrication) is what I am experiencing here. If someone could mail me said articles on that subject I would be very grateful. Or if that is not the problem I am having any advice would be much appreciated.
