[comp.sys.amiga] Emacs, a quest for...

antunes@ASTRO.PSU.EDU (Alex Antunes) (02/23/90)

Hello! Okay, I've tried micrognuemacs off the fish disks, but
that took up too much memory on my poor 1 meg machine. So I
tried Memacs from the 1.3 Extras disk, but that creates a custom
window and I need a workbench screen that is resizable. I also
tried a microemacs from somewhere, it was PD or shareware but I
don't remember where from (off ftp)... it tended to crash the
machine if I had too many things going with it.
So, does anyone know of a version of EMACS which makes sizable
workbench screens and takes little memory (say, under 90000)?
(p.s. please no suggestions for other editors, i really need
something that recognizes emacs commands because i use emacs at
work!) Thanks, one and all. sandy

I believe that in an ancient primitive dialect, EMACS means "memory pig".

EMACS is one of the few editors that is also an operating system, arbitrary
language interpretter, internal spec composer, and psychologist.

It's amusing to know that I can recursively run EMACS from within EMACS.

After all, the default icon for EMACS on my sun at work is the kitchen sink.

PS. Sorry, I really don't know the answer to your question. I use
gnu-emacs at work and like it a lot.

[ insert stupid lineeater joke here.]

antunes@ASTRO.PSU.EDU (Alex Antunes) wanted an Emacs that would use
a resizeable Workbench window.

The 1.3 Extras Emacs has an option which opens a window on the Workbench.
Simply add "opt w" to the end of the Emacs command (e.g. "emacs file opt w")

MicroEMACs from the Extras disk can do what you want. Use the
emacs_pro file in the S:emacs directory to issue the set screen workbench
comnmand. (I think that's the syntax...) mEMACS will then open a window on
your workbench screen.
