An Update for STEVE MORSE fans: (And I suppose some interesting information for Rush fans also). I just talked to someone from Ernie Ball (guitar string maker). Steve Morse will be giving seminars in a tour of "eastern states". The dates and locations will coincide with a tour as the regular opening band for Rush. The Rush/Morse tour starts in early December. I'm a little bit dissapointed that Morse is touring as an opening act. He's done this once or twice in the past and, like all opening acts, rarely got to play much more than an hour. I would much rather see him headline at a club. This way, he forces his fans to compete with the more numerous Rush fans for tickets. The guy I talked to said that Steve currently didn't have any club dates lined up (in the past he's usually done at least one club gig in each city the main tour stops in). But there's hope! It's my understanding that at least twice in the past he has been dropped as the opening act in mid-tour. Once for allegedly (and unintentionally) upstaging the headline band (I think that was Santana). Another time for causing concerts to run overtime by being asked back for too many encores. (When I saw him open for Dr. Hook and the Medicine show, he did 3 encores, and despite a continuing standing ovation, was forced by the producers of the show to stop and make the announcement that he had to stop so that DH&TMS fans could hear their band.) What do you expect when you hire the guy who's been dominating Guitar Players Best Overall Guitarist category for several years?
