[comp.sys.amiga] DPaint III and font requester.

tony@hp-sdd.hp.com (Tony Parkhurst) (03/03/90)

Most times I get into the DPaint III font requester to select a new
font, and view other fonts, etc. I get Guru'd. Is this something that
has been fixed by EA?

Also, when I print a landscape picture on my 180 dpi paintjet from
DPaintIII, the scaling makes the output look very blocky and LOOOWWWWW
res. Any ideas on improving this output?

I use DPaint III daily and have never had a font requester Guru.

     1. Are you running background tasks? There may be contention.
     2. Are there fonts in your font directory? Have you tried
reASSIGNing to another directory to see if the Guru happens
         in the same manner?
     3. When does it Guru, after typing a new directory?
     4. Have you tried running Workbench 1.3 FIXFONTS utility to
see if the problem is in the *.font files (the headers)?

We need more information to help you with your problem.

Are you using 1.2 or 1.3? You can't do alot about it in 1.2. 1.3 has many
more options for setting aspect ratios, multiply, dither, etc. Check your
preferences settings and double-check if the correct printer driver is
selected. With 1.3 you have a fair amount of control over these factors.

I have not noticed this problem on DPaint III 2.99 or DPaint III 3.01, but
what would make a difference is if your fonts are smatter all over. I have
hard drives on my Amiga and make this assigment at power up:
assign fonts: DH1:fonts
after that everything works fine. It takes Dpaint along time to get the font
list, because there's about 8 Meg of usable fonts (non scalable of course).
Try making that assignment or using the fonts of the disk you booted. It's
worth a try.

(I wonder if it takes more RAM than you have to list all those fonts. nah.)
