[comp.sys.amiga] AudioVisual Presentation

kent@swrinde.nde.swri.edu (Kent D. Polk) (03/07/90)

----------------

I need to make a technically oriented, audiovisual presentation which
will eventually be put on VCR tape. I need to do some animation
sequences including both video and sound to lay some explanatory
groundwork & move into running some interactive software I have written
for the main part of the presentation. Please understand that I have
never done this sort of thing, am starting from ground zero, and am a
bit confused. The live presentation will be done with my 2500/
flickerFixer/ Nec3D & I will probaly just videotape the display using a
camera (unless I can find a genlock to borrow).

I am ready to buy the software needed for the animation sequences
(DPaintIII will be used to draw the animation frames, & have a sampler
& AudioMasterII). I have narrowed the choice of animation software to
DeluxeVideo (latest) or CanDo. Unfortunately, I can't find a decent
description of CanDo or a decent comparision of it with DeluxeVideo(latest).

Interestingly, I read terse descriptions of CanDo doing everything but
buttering my toast in the morning, but no real description of it's
capabilities.

Question: Would someone with a knowledge of both packages please
enlighten me as to the relative merits of each? I would be very grateful.

Also, how about titling software? This is only an internal company
presentation & thus doesn't need to be broadcast quality :^), but should
I be looking at titling software, and if so, what is reasonable?

Thanks,

In response to the Cando VS DVIII comparison request...

Here at the multimedia lab, we use both Cando and DVIII quite extensively.

Let me first say that they both excellent peices of software, I am especially
impressed with Cando. It is 96% rock solid at version 1.0 which is a first
for any Amiga software product.

Cando is an authoring system: You use it to write applications,
interactive tutorials and the like. If you have 3 megs, you won't have any
probelm with either packages.

DVIII provides built in wipes, more time-control, midi support, anim &
animbrush support, NO scripting (!!), but can be interactive...

Cando provides primitives for editors, document viewing, intuition
gadgets for your windows etc..

I guess what I am trying to say is that Cando is more for an interactive
program wheareas DVII excells at timing and presentation...

I think for your purposes, get DVIII although I think Cando is another
necessity in anyones software collection. Warning!!! mem > 1 meg!!
