I recently posted a message that spoke about the things that I would like to see in the telecommunications programs available for the Amiga. I said alot of things, and one of the responses that came back (tho' not from any of the writers of these programs) was, "If you want it so bad, why don't you write it yourself". Well the simple answer is, "Someone always beats me to it". I have given up the ghost on writting something that is original and popular, and con- tent myself to learn how to write the stuff, and sometimes write something small that is good. In my awe, then, of these people who can focus enough to actually stick with an idea until it is a great working program, I tend to forget to tell the authors how wonderful their programs really are. I instead get all caught up in telling them what I want their programs to do to more meet my needs. To all you developers out there, thank you very much, especially Dave Wecker, and the Software Distillery, and really especially Fred Fish (finally got thru 40). What really brought this to the surface was tonight when I spoke to Wendy from A-squared about the A-Live, I later thought that my relentless quest- ions about "why won't it do this..." and "why won't it do that..." really put a damper on her mood at the BADGE meeting. I am tickled pick about the framegrabber, but I was just digging for more info, and if only she read this net. Oh, well... By the way, Dale Luck said tonight {as Dale cringes in fear of a mis-quote} that the release of 1.2 kickstart is identifyable (?) by the big "V1.2" on the screen that has the hand holding the workbench disk ready to be inserted. This one is KickStart 33.179, developers got 33.180 in the Gamma release. They are very identical, except that .180 had the "V1.2" removed again. The Workbench is 33.47, gamma release is 33.44. Just thought you would like to know. Since Commodore is asking only $15 for the 1.2 release, you know that they are not making any money on this, so if your friend gets it and you want it, feel free to copy his/her disks and documentation and save Commodore/Amiga the trouble. I just want to know where my 33.67 came from...... So, how long til we start to get the beta 1.3 releases?????? Isn't it time to start asking what is going to be in that release? Can I boot from the hard disk, etc, etc. And if R.J. and Jim M. are not working on Intuition, who is? I mean who is incharge of it the way those two were? Does anybody out there know of a terminal program that will run on a 1MB, 1 floppy system that has the following: 1) VT100 and FULL ANSI terminal emulations (full IBM character set and full VT100 graphics) 2) Kermit and Zmodem 3) A dialer with a dialing queue 4) It must reconfigure depending on the number dialed 5) Maybe a decent script language The last is not crucial, but I'd prefer it. Also, a Public Domain or Shareware product would be better than a commerical one Reply directly to me through Email tjhayko@thunder.lakeheadu.ca tjhayko@thunder.UUCP tjhayko@LUSUN.BITNET tjhayko@LAKEHEAD.BITNET QUIT

Access! is very good for BBS, but has no VT100 (I don't know about Zmodem) or script language [this last one is shareware]. -- Marco -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Xerox sues somebody for copying?" -- David Letterman -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Actually, Access!'s ANSI emulation isn't good enough for use as an ANSI terminal on the Unix boxes here, or even to use on IBM BBS systems that use ANSI cursor placement commands. Its colour interpretation is good; it simply doesn't handle cursor movement correctly. On the other hand, it does have a script language as of version 1.42 (the most recent version.) It's not a very big one (if I recall from the documentation correctly, he plans to replace it with a "real" one later), I understand that if you put it to sleep (it has an "iconify" option) that you can use one of a couple of external protocall packages to get Zmodem. Internally, it has Xmodem, Xmodem/CRC, and WXmodem (which is really handy on packet-switched networks...) - R'ykandar. -- | R'ykandar Korra'ti | Editor, LOW ORBIT | PLink: Skywise | CIS 72406,370 | | Elfinkind, Unite! | phoenix@ms.uky.edu | phoenix%ms.uky.edu@ukcc.bitnet | | "Careful, mom, the toys are loose!" - from The Wizard of Speed and Time |
