I was wondering if there were any other people on the net with a more than casual interest in pyrotechnics, in particular, members of PGII, APA, and/or other regional groups, or others wishing to extend their knowlege in the area, exchange techniques, compositions, ideas or other information. I've been interested in the subject for several years, and since joining PGII and the local Portland Pyrotechnic Association last year, have been introduced to many new sources of information, fabrication and safety techniques, supplies, formulae, etc., besides getting practical "hands on" experience in setting up and firing shows, avoiding getting various portions of my anatomy blown off, and so forth. Constructing and firing your own creations can be a lot of fun, as well as providing a *creative* way of blowing off steam after spending too much time staring at your CRT. Besides, it can be pretty (and, yes, there are ways of doing it that make it no more dangerous than, say, skiing or contract programming.) As this note will probably be posted somewhat indirectly, please be sure to mail any responses to me: John Collins (...pur-ee!icalqa!inteloa!jpc@intelob or ...ogcvax!inteloa!jpc@intelob) P.S. Mad bombers need not reply. Those of you whose prior experience is limited to the manufacture of salutes of various sorts are likely courting disaster. If you must continue with your noisy hobby, I can at least pass on a few pointers on how to do it as safely as possible (and maybe get you interested in some other, less risky and more challenging aspects of the art). No Chlorates! John.
