[comp.sys.amiga] Commodore Advertizing

BARRETT@owl.ecil.iastate.edu (Marc Barrett) (03/11/90)

'Commodore Advertizing' has become a mutually conflicting term, like
'military intelligence' or 'soviet unity'.

Commodore ran a pretty good advertizing compaign last fall, but then
they did something that no company should EVER do: they stopped it!!!

In order for Commodore to make the Amiga a much more well-known
and highly-regarded computer, they must advertize well, and advertize
continually. This stop-and-go advetizing ABSOLUTELY MUST STOP.

Ask anyobody who knows anything about business, and they will tell
you that off-and-on advertizing DOES NOT WORK! If Commodore does not
advertize continually, they are waisting their money. In order for
advertizing (especially of the sort Commodore is attempting to use to
clean up their image) to work, it must be run constantly for a long
period of time.

Around here (at Iowa State University) that advertizing compaign
hasn't done much whatsoever to improve how well-known the Amiga is,
or Commodore's image. Everybody has heard of Commodore, but almost
nobody has ever heard of the Amiga. Whenever I try to tell someone
about the Amiga, I have to keep it a secret what company makes it.
If I even mention the word 'commodore' they immediately say
"Commodore stuff is shit." I apologize for the swearing, but that
is an exact quote from more than a few people. Naturally, they
immediately think the Amiga is junk, until they are proven wrong.

Sorry for posting a spelling flame, but..

Marc if you are going to flame commodore for bad advertising, at least
spell 'advertising' right. In your posting, it was every other word. all
spelled 'advertiZing' or 'advertiZe'.

Personally I think Commodore is doing a fine job advertising. You can't expect
them to keep up showing TV commercials 360 days a year. They don't have the
budget that IBM or Apple has. Give them a break. They are doing the best they
can. It is a heck of a lot better than they used to do.

Flaming them for it doesn't help, it just pisses them off.
