[comp.sys.amiga] Uncompress w/large files

limonce@pilot.njin.net (Tom Limoncelli) (03/15/90)

"Compress" crashes my machine when used to decompress a large file.
Does anyone else have this problem?

The details:

 Compress version: compress.c,v 4.0 85/07/30 12:50:00 joe Release
      File length: 1,854,369 bytes long.
The command I use: compress -d stuff.tar.Z

Part-way through the file COMPRESS just uses CPU, but doesn't do any
disk I/O. Eventually the machine crashes.

The file was compressed on a Sun3 running SunOS. I've never had this
problem before.

When I did: compress -dc stuff.tar.Z | tar -tvf -
I got a listing of the first bunch of files but then it said that it
was skipping to the next file header and eventually tar wasn't using
any CPU time but compress was.

advTHANKSance.
