Before I take the great "break your bank" plunge and purchase a 2500, I need to have a few questions answered. Since this is (for me) a major purchase, I would appreciate any help. Potential aquisition: 1) Amiga 2500 with 25MHz CPU 2) 3MB RAM (1MB 16 bit, 2MB 32 bit) 3) 40MB hard disk 4) 3.5" floppy drive 5) "RGB HiRes Analog" monitor 6) AT BridgeBoard & drive (A-2286D?) The above list is from an ad by a local dealer (I realize that most is standard issue). If I could trade the BridgeBoard option to something else, what would be the best item of comparable value (and better use) to exchange it with? Would I be better off: 1) getting more memory? 2) multi-sync monitor? 3) trading for software? 4) printer? 5) take the cash...? 6) keeping the BridgeCard after all? Question #1 (and one half): If I opt for extra memory, would I be likely to get 120ns RAM? Would it be worth replacing the original RAM with "faster" RAM? Question #2 (plus a few extra): How much different is a "multi-sync monitor" than say a standard 1084? I now have a Magnavox RGB monitor which seems like it would be comprable to the 1084 - not sure. If a multi-sync monitor is worth it, is a "Flicker Fixer" necessary? (Just how much of a "Fix" does one of these items do?) Question #3 (general): Does 1MB out of the "3MB" of RAM belong to Agnus? Is this what is referred to as 16 bit RAM? Question #4: Are there various hardware revision levels that I need to watch out for? Should I be concerned that I may get a system that has been hanging out on a shelf for 2 years and has some out-rev'd quirky ingredients in it? I plan on using this machine to do as much as possible - much programming activity. Although the Amiga's graphics capabilities are very impressive, they are not top priority for my expected uses (of course, things change!) Thanks for any input (non-flame material). ******************************DISCLAIMER********************************** These purchases reflect my own pocket book, and not that of my employer! ************************************************************************** -- Mark Nagel Domain: mark@tc.fluke.COM Voice: +1 206 356 5098 UUCP: microsoft!fluke!mark or sun!fluke!mark Snail: John Fluke Mfg.
