I had been looking for a reference book on the 680x0 Microprocessor family. I wanted a book that covered the 68000, the 68020, and the MMU and FPU that are on my A2620. Well, I finally found one, and I would like to recomend it. It is called "68030 ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE REFERENCE" by Steve Williams. It covers the entire 680x0 Microprocessor line, up to and including the 68030. It covers the 68881 & 68882 FPUs. It also has an extensive coverage of the 68851 MMU and the 68851 subset that is in the 68030 chip. While it is mainly a reference manual, the MMU section includes quite a bit of "how to" info on managing the MMU. It is interesting to see how much of the 68851's functions were lost when they had to cram it into the 68030 chip! It also has some interesting sample code in the back, along with benchmark results (On a Mac II, I believe). He does mention the Amiga a couple of times. The book is published by Addison-Wesley. ISBN = 0-201-08876-2. List price is $29.95 (I got mine for $24.00 at BookStop). -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- These words be mine. The company doesn't care, because I am the company! :-) Dave Lowrey | In Texas: {uhnix1,moray}!starsoft!david Starbound Software Group | The World: dwl10@uts.amdahl.com (amdahl!dwl10) Houston, TX |
