Hmmm. I've managed to get along without submitting to net.general for a long time, but suddenly I find myself in the position of having to reply to messages that were (possibly inappropriately) posted here -- and I unfortunately must ALSO use this newsgroup, otherwise the reply would not be seen by the same people who saw the ORIGINAL message. Talk about a Catch-22... Anyway, I don't see why there has to be much argument about a net.vms group -- VMS is certainly a valid topic for discussion on this net, regardless of its problems or merits. Actually, it will be becoming even *more* of a valid topic, because of some work now underway. I hadn't planned to discuss this for awhile, but it appears that now is as good a time as any: work is already underway on a *native* VMS version of my private UUCP code (which is not based on Unix code). My native VMS UUCP should also include my basic mail/netnews generation software, and should be enough to allow virtually *any* VMS site to become a full participating member of Usenet, in addition to providing standard UUCP file transfer and mail capabilities, both between VMS sites and between VMS and Unix sites. So, since this work almost assures a whole new class of VMS users joining our happy orgies, it seems only right that, at the very least, a net.vms group should be established. Just an opinion, of course. --Lauren-- {decvax, ihnp4, harpo, ucbvax!lbl-csam, randvax}!vortex!lauren
