[comp.sys.amiga] Trak-Ball Hack needed

chris@AUSTIN.LOCKHEED.COM (Chris Wood) (03/22/90)

Help! I just bought an Atari trak-ball to attach to my Amiga 1000.
I have all of the "known" trak-ball hacks that have been published
on the net, I think.

Unfortunately, this trak-ball doesn't match the ones published
previously. I have a CX80 Atari Trak-Ball. It has a big 2" ball
in the middle of a box about 8" by 5". I opened it up by removing
the four screws hidden under the rubber feet on the bottom. Inside
is a 7-wire cable connector with slide-on terminals. The colors are,
from left to right: yellow, orange, red, brown, violet, blue, and gray.
The circuit board has "PICO 5", "A2010", "REV A P-2" written on it.
There are four chips soldered to the board: 14-pin HCF40106BE,
16-pin HCF 4098BE, 16-pin HCF 4019BE (98301y), and 14-pin
HCF 4013BE (88324Y). 16-pin means 8 per side. (Tells you how much I
know about electronics).

I do know how to solder and cut traces. Can anyone out there tell
me how to make this thing into a mouse. It has a switch for Mouse and
Joystick modes, and it works fine in joystick mode.

BTW, I bought it for $6.00 at a discount toy store in a big Outlet Mall
in New Braunfels, TX.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
