[comp.sys.amiga] Aprotek 2400 baud modem?

Has anyone used one? Do they work? Will using one with an A500 overtax
the power supply (if you have 1 meg and an external drive already hooked up).

I recently received an Aprotek Minimodem-AM24 and I am very pleased with it.
The only problem is that the cable is very short, when pluged into my Ami 2000
I can't even sit the modem on top of the computer... it lays behind which is a
waste of the nifty LEDs on the modem. Becareful when buying an extender cable.
.. I went to Radio Shack (I'm in a small town, sorry) and the cable I got there
will not work... it has nuts on the connector that goes to the back of the CPU
and they will not connect.
The modem does not have an internal speaker... it sends the sound thru the Ami
to the monitor speaker. Its a little too queit and I usually have to turn the
monitor speaker all the way up to hear if I get a busy signal or not.
Both these problems are minor and I do not think they take much away from the
modem. $80 for a 2400 baud modem is a great price and the Aprotek is well
worth it. It even comes with some PD programs to get you started.
I couldn't tell you about the power supply, but they claim the 12 volts of the
serial port are sufficient. Remember it has no speaker so there is some power
saved...

Yeah, I ran into this too. So I went to one of B. Dalton
Bookstore's Software ETC. and picked up a PC/XT modem cable that works
great with my 2000 and my Avatex 1200. Here in Okie-Homer the cable
was kind of expensive at 21 bucks, but for the money I got a
six foot long cable in a nice shade of insulated grey. :-)
