[comp.sys.amiga] Ethernet boards

gilgalad@dip.eecs.umich.edu (Ralph Seguin) (03/01/90)

Hi. I would like to get some info from those of you out there who have
ethernet boards for your Amiga. First off, how much are the boards?
I know of three makes: Ameristar, Commodore (not available, but I have
heard that C='s board is just Ameristar's board) and a board from some
British firm. I know that Ameristar's board is being marketed by GfxBase
with X, but it seems a little expensive to me. How much are the other
boards? Do any of them have NFS running yet? They are all 802.3 spec
I suppose. Any and all comments are welcomed.

				Thanks, Ralph

PS- Hey, Dave Haynie! Thanks for all the help with the 2630. I appreciate
all the info. Got an 040 based system running yet? I know, we cannot refer
to any projects ... Did you get my mail concerning IBM's REOS machines?

Hmm, along these lines, may I respectfully ask somebody to write to MicroTimes
about such things. [MicroTimes is Bay Area specific, I'd be happy to submit
an article for some aspiring author.. :)]
In the recent Letters column, following a predictable tirade of "don't abuse
us poor Amiga owners," the following was printed:

[Quoted from Feb 19 1990 MicroTimes without permission]

For the record, we [MicroTimes] would welcome an informative article on the
use of Amigas with Hewlett-Packard printers, laser and otherwise. To say
nothing of the use of the Amiga in multi-vendor networked business
environments. Interested writers are heartily encouraged to contact us. --eds.

----------end quote-------------

So anyone interested in a little evangelism?

There has been a price reduction in ethernet boards available from
GfxBase. I know it is not alot but I also felt that $899 was a bit
steep for the AIP2000 package.
We are now offering the AIP2000 package for $795 list which is $104
off the original list price. We are able to do this because of some
new arrangements we have made for getting the boards made for us.
The software is the same Ameristar3.0, NFS/Rlogin/rsh/tcp-ip/... etc
and supports the X Window System also available from GfxBase.

There has been a price change in the Ameristar Internet Package from GfxBase.

Ameristar Internet Software package and ethernet board is $795 now.
It was $899 a while back.
As far as I know it is the only ethernet system that supports tcp/ip,nfs,rlogin,
ftp, tftp, rsh, and X Window System from GfxBase.
Actually there is one other software system that supports X from GfxBase and
that is Syndesis' TSSnet (DECnet) for the Amiga.
