[comp.sys.amiga] Empire 1.33w bug

GJose@system-m.phx.bull.com (03/27/90)

I have come across a 'feature' of Empire 1.33w that appears to function
against the rules, and was hoping that someone could clarify this
occurrence as an intended operation or an actual fault.
It would appear that when you issue a 'map' command for an area greater
than your current domain, that the sectors of all allies appear on this map
with their correct designations, despite the fact that the manual states
that you can only view adjacent ally sectors.
I would appreciate any advice regarding this,

Maybe I should change the manual, or make it more obvious if it's
in there. It is supposed to do that. I have made many changes in regards to
country-country relations. The Chris Gray versions tend to keep the effect
of relations strictly to "do I shoot at his planes if they fly over me" and
"do I shoot his spies or just deport them". In my versions it makes MUCH
more difference, and you need to be sure you really want/trust someone as
an ally. Specifically, off the top of my head, here are some of the things
that are affected by relations:

You can only see reports from/buy from people who are at least
NEUTRAL to you. You can't buy/see things for sale by
people who are at war with you. This is to simulate the
highly unlikely event of the US selling supplies to
		the Axis during WWII.
When using the MAP command, you can see the designation of sectors
that are owned by people who are allied with you.
This is an attempt to simulate reality. If someone
is your ally, why wouldn't you want him to know your
location? If you don't trust them that much, they shouldn't
		be allies.
When using RADAR, allies show up as A, enemies show up as W,
and neutral show up as ?
When using sonar from a sub or destroyer, you see the other countries
names in front of the sub number if they are allied to
		you.

I believe that that last one is not in 1.33, but in 1.34, but I
can't remember for sure...
