Desipte a rash of postings from a bunch of naysayers of late you would have you believe that the Amiga is all but dead and buried, the Amiga is in fact entering an exciting new era. The new 1.4 software release, from what we've heard, has a lot of exciting improvements and new capabilities, including Compugraphic fonts and, yes, a facelift. The new custom chips supporting a meg of chip RAM are out, and new versions that support several new graphics modes are forthcoming. A look at the new AC Buyer's Guide yields some interesting information. Ten video digitizers. Nine scanners. Two digital video effects processors. Eight editing system/video hardware interfaces. Six video encoders. Three 24-bit video frame buffers. Nineteen (!) genlocks. While Mac prices spiral, while Mac capabilities that we have had in the Amiga from the beginning continue to be at least a year away (and System 7.0 still won't have preemptive realtime multitasking according to my Mac developer friends), the Amiga's original Good Design is reaping benefits in spades. So stay the course. The Amiga is entering a new golden age. -- -- uunet!sugar!karl "As long as there is a legion of superheros, all else -- can surely be made right." -- Sensor Girl -- Usenet access: (713) 438-5018
