My son accidentally renamed the SimCity disk (which must be present to play the game). So, he renamed it back - but incorrectly. Now it has an error: "key 999x unreadible. Use diskdoctor ...". He did - for better or for worse. Diskdoctor reports a few more bad keys in sequence aroud the number originally reported. But, the result is that the disk will not validate because of the unreadible key, so it cannot be renamed back to the correct name. I do not know what copy protection scheme is used on this game, but he thinks it is a file without a name, not the boot block, because it can be duplicated for use - though the original must be inserted to play. Questions: Is this error really due to the copy protection, or is it a bad disk? If so, is there a way to get past the diskvalidator to change its name? I seem to remember that it is very hard to get past the diskvalidator. If not, can disksalv be used to try to reconstruct the disk (hopefully copying the nameless file that he believes is the source of the copy protection)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
