I've tried to send mail to systems that are propogating BBS traffic onto the network but none of them seem to answer. Could someone figure out why the wonder kid here is sending out duplicate copies of his hello message ? Unfortunately that leaves me resorting to a general posting. Sorry about that. --Chuck McManis uucp: {anywhere}!sun!cmcmanis BIX: <none> Internet: cmcmanis@Eng.Sun.COM These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you. Hmm, well, Id like to say this to all you amiga users out here, I am running a BBS, for about 1 year now recently on my new amiga 2000 which has failed miserably, buuut, i dont care.... I would like to invite everyone here to call it, Milliways/Spectrum BBS in Hamilton, Ontario... (416)388-2542, I now have 40 megs online, and 300-2400 baud is what we have now, and i hope to go 9600 sometime in the future, maybe when i pay back the loan for the HD I bought... I strive to help the people on my bbs, and its tough sometimes, and i test out all files uploaded for validity, so its very organized...Heres a neat bombshell for you all, i am THIRTEEN..Hahahaha..... I have been using a 64 since i was about 6 and i have used amigas for 2 years, i think i sorta know what im doing... Even got subscriptions to INFO magazine, and if i win the lottery, AmigoTimes. This is my first post on the net, so bear with me... I do not own a Amiga yet, but I'm looking into purchasing an Amiga 500. I'd like to know what a good setup to begin with is. I don't have a whole lot of money to spend, but I would like to know what is a good setup for someone just getting into Amiga computing. Thanx in advance... -Pete ProLine: peterr@pro-graphics UUCP: ...crash!pro-graphics!peterr ARPA/DDN: pro-graphics!peterr@nosc.mil Internet: peterr@pro-graphics.cts.com

For $800 you will get a 1 MEG A500 with a second Disk Drive plus Monitor. That is the best basic system you can get for the A500. IF you have between $520 and $800 in addition I would suggest adding the A590 Harddrive. This will give you 20 Megs of storage and a place to put 2 additional Megs of memory in the future. Good luck with your system Marc Siskin Msiskin@shogun.us.cc.umich.edu

Thanx in advance... It depends somewhat on what you want to do with the machine, but in general I would get a second disk drive as soon as possibe. The machine will drive you crazy with out it. After that I would go with extra memory. I think the 500 comes with a meg now, although I'm not sure about that. A meg is about the minimum you want to go with to be productive. If you can afford an extra 2 meg, you will be in good shape to get alot out of your machine. After that a hard drive is real nice to have. Mike, P.S. In another direction - find access to the fish library of Public Domain software and start playing with whatever looks interesting on them. There is about 340 disks out there now - no shortage of PD. -- "Could we be the bellwether | Michael Figg DSAC-FSD of major societal shifts?" | DLA Systems Automation Center - Columbus,Oh mfigg@dsacg2.dsac.dla.mil CIS: 73777,360
