[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga/ST flame wars.

kiwi@motto.UUCP (Kiwi the Magnificent) (04/10/90)

Interesting. Well, it seems to me that flame wars over computer types
will never end. I mean, ten years ago, people were arguing over
which was better: Vic 20 or Apple II. It is something we are all
used to and sick of. Truth, however, is truth. Some micros *are*
better than others. Why, then, do the ST/Amiga wars perpetuate?
Simple. Because both systems do some things well.
Sure, the ST has an 8MHz 68000, when the Amiga only has a 7.43 MHz job.
That is undeniable. BUT, the graphics hardware on the Amiga mean it
has graphics potential far beyond that of the ST. Any good software
house will agree on this. For example, taking the English software
company Psygnosis's "Shadow of the Beast" as an example, we can
see that the graphics and sound capabilities of the Amiga have been
pushed to the limit, into the realms of arcade machines. The ST could
never equal that. However, the ST is much easier to get to grips with.
The pure reason is because of its simpler OS (non-multi-tasking,
non-multi-user) and internal structure. That, however, is not a
BAD thing when looked at from some points of view. It makes learning
to program on it much easier.
It is such a silly argument really, since both machines are almost the
same price (well, OK, the ST is cheaper) and both serve people's
needs well.
So why don't we just shut this dumb argument up. As for ST owners
posting to comp.sys.amiga, if you're not going to post something
constructive, then please piss off. You have your own newsgroup.

It's a silly argument really, since the Acorn Archimedes beats them
both.

A happy Amiga owner,
Kiwi.
