4/10/90 syquest sq555 problems
equip:
amiga 2000
1 IVS trump card
1 internal sq555 drive 44M
1 external sq555
1 cartridge DH0: = disk1:
1 cartridge DH0: = disk2:
1 cartridge DH1: = disk3:
history:
disk1: ~20M full, normal boot disk
disk2: older copy of disk1:
disk3: mostly empty, nothing important
onset:
operating with just the internal hard drive, using lattice 5.04 lse
just saved file, shut off hard drive only, computer still on
back after a long while, alert: disk1 read write error
spun up disk and retried, bombed, acces light stays on, sounds emit
reboot, access light stays on, sounds emit
disk2: in internal, disk1: in external, reboot
had to turn on external later, if too early bomb as above
if too late would not mount, no disk1: icon in workbench
got it to go just once:
error disk1:, retry
error validating key 40759, bad header type
grab important files, seem ok (whew!)
disk3: in internal, disk2: in external (so DH1: mounts ok), reboot
put disksalv and stuff in RAM:, disksalv DH1: DH0:
put disk1: in external, Y at prompt for disksalv:
builds directory, wome block key mismatches noted (79225 != 38756)
starts writing to disk3:, bombs (screen goes crazy)
disk3: in internal only reboot, run virusx 3.2:
ColdCapture pointing to $FE7B0, possible new virus
files from disksalv on disk3: are either 488 or 0 bytes
what next:
going to mrbackup disk2: to floppies
help:
does this sound like a new virus, or perhaps a mishap cosmic ray
that randomly changed the wrong 1 into a wrong 0. how about disk1: ?
gone for good? what's ColdCapture to $FE7B0? how can i isolate a
possible virus? maybe virusx 4.0 could help. can it check disk2:?
if not, how can i do virus check of disk2:? i dont know... do you?
thanks for any replies, ric@hpspd
