I have the opportunity to buy Mac single sided (400K) external drives for $20 apiece. Various departments here at CMU are trying to get rid of them. Does anybody know of a product for the Amiga that will allow the use of these drives on the Amiga, preferably for reading/writing Macintosh disks? This seems like a really cheap way to get data compatibility with the Mac. --M -- Michael Portuesi * Information Technology Center * Carnegie Mellon University INET: mp1u+@andrew.cmu.edu * BITNET: mp1u+@andrew UUCP: ...harvard!andrew.cmu.edu!mp1u+ MAIL: Carnegie Mellon University, P.O. I recently posted asking if there was a product that would allow the use of a Mac single-sided (400K) drive with the Amiga, for the purpose of reading/writing Mac-readable disks. It turns out that there is. The Mac-2-Dos package from Central Coast Software does allow the use of standard Macintosh drives, included the Mac single-sided drive. If you buy their special drive along with the package, you get the bonus ability of using their drive as a standard Amiga drive. But if you don't need that capability, you don't need their drive -- a standard Apple drive will do. From my phone discussion with the folks at Central Coast, the Mac-2-Dos package will be released in late June and will retail for $99.95 without the disk drive. For those of you on campus, Tech Electronics still had two Mac single-sided drives left for $18 when I visited them today. --M -- Michael Portuesi * Information Technology Center * Carnegie Mellon University INTERNET: mp1u+@andrew.cmu.edu * BITNET: mp1u+@andrew UUCP: ...harvard!andrew.cmu.edu!mp1u+ MAIL: Carnegie Mellon University, P.O. I wanted to find out is it possible for Mac drives to read and write Amiga disks? If this is possible, can a program or something be written to allow the Amiga to use the mac drives possibly thru Amax as an Amiga drive? Is someone possibly working on this? (Readysoft, maybe?) Any replies appreciated either posted or e-mail. Since I don't have to do any Mac stuff now, the mac drive just sits next to my Amiga gathering more dust....8-)... -- **************************************************************************** // || Hardware : A2000, 3 megs, 2 internal 3 1/2" drives \\ // || Future Purchases : SCSI Controller, 40-60 meg harddrives, A3000 \X/ || jimmy@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu or jimmy@uhccux.bitnet
