Help! I can't seem to make AmigaDOS recognize my hard drive when I format
it with FastFileSystem. A brief (I hope) summary of the story thus far:
I have a Seagate ST-138 hard drive which I'm running with an OMTI 5527 RLL
controller via a Palomax interface (has ANYONE else even heard of this thing?)
which allows any standard ST506 controller to be used on an Amiga. I know
the interface, controller, cables and the drive itself are good because they've
all been used before (not conclusive in itself, I know) and because I CAN:
- low-level format using the Palomax software
- read/verify (low-level) with few errors which I remap (normal)
- high-level (?) format (IE, using AmigaDOS system/format) without errors
- successfully use the drive IF I don't format under FastFileSystem (which
also involves changing the MountList entry, which I do).
The problem is, even with the mountlist set up correctly and Format told to
use FFS, the drive doesn't work after a successful format! The second anything
tries to look at or read the drive, I got a "Not a DOS disk in Unit 1"
requester. Assign lists DH0: as a mounted device, but (here's the intersting
thing) Info lists DH0: as a 47Meg hard drive which is status:Validating.
Nothing is happening to the hard drive, so it's not REALLY validating.
Can anyone suggest anything to try? I've been through my mountlist entry
backwards and forwards dozens of times, it should be fine, but... I have
successfully used this setup with a different drive in the past, but I
don't know what I'm doing wrong this time. PLEASE, any suggestions mail me
