I use my machine for: - Home bugetting (we have Phasar 4.0) - Kids education (I buy anything that my 5 and 3 year old will play that is educational and will install on the hard disk) - games - misc stuff like calling BBS I have a 50 meg hard disk of which I've only used half. I only buy games and software that I can put on the hard disk. I didn't spend $500 on it to sit and listen to it spin. If I wanted a floppy based system, I would have bought a amiga 500 rather than the 2000. (I figured the internal disk would cost me less than the external and I'd be better off in the long run). But seriously (without flaming), my kids get impatient waiting for a floppy when they can go to our nintendo and get games to start up immediately. unfortunately, the nintendo only has a couple of educational things. Also, If I've put 20 or so hours into a game, I like to think that 4 or 5 of them were not waiting for the floppy (as is the case with shadow of the beast). Also, I think that this floppy mania that the software producers have contributes to the reputation that the amiga has for not being a real computer.
