[comp.sys.amiga] Mouse pointer shapes

C503719@UMCVMB.MISSOURI.EDU ("Baird McIntosh") (05/03/90)

One thing that I don't like about the current WB is the default mouse pointer
shape. Now, C= has apparently changed that shape, but it still doesn't look
that great. The problem with designing the ultimate pointer shape is that
the image must be done in 320x200 resolution while the WB screen is 640xNNN.
Thus, the pointer will look too big or fat unless you are careful. Now,
personally I prefer a fairly small pointer. Because of the rather crude
resolution of the shape, you are fairly locked into a 45 deg angled pointer.
This means it's pretty hard to get a more vertically-pointing pointer shape
reminiscent of the Macintosh. You can make a more vertical Mac-like pointer
of course; witness the Prowrite 2.0 (2.5, 3.0?) pointer shape. Anyway, the
result is usually too cruddy looking. Well, here is a shape not unlike the
new WB 2.0 pointer image. It may be slightly smaller, I don't know. Every
number pair (i.e. 00, 01, 02, etc.) is one pixel of the indicated color.

A better mouse pointer (not necessarily the standard 2.0 pointer):

                   +---------------------------------
00 = yellow        | *1 02
01 = dark bluish   | 01 00 02 02
02 = light bluish  |    01 00 00 02 02
                   |    01 00 00 00 00 02 02
background color   |       01 00 00 00 00 00
is whatever...     |       01 00 00 00 02
                   |          01 00 01 00 02
note: *1 is the    |          01 00    01 00 02
 'point'           |                      01
                   |

Wow! How cool, right? You may not really care about such things as pointer
shapes, but you must admit the 1.x default is really clunky looking. And the
new 2.0 shape looks a little too big. The above shape is a scaled-down
version of the 2.0 pointer shape. Thrillsville, eh?
