Hey, Commodore got some coverage in this weeks (April 30th) issue of _MIS week_. It's only a 1/2 page 'extended blurb' on page 12, but who's complaining. It's titled: 'Commodore hits corporate trail with Amiga 3000; Touts multimedia authoring capabilities' .....here are some interesting excerpts (w/o permission, of course ;-) ) "...Commodore Business Machines Inc. took the wraps off the Amiga 3000 personal computer and offered users an authoring system, AmigaVision, that will enable them to create a wide range of multimedia applications." Commodore CEO Harold Copperman on the 3000 and AmigaVision: "According to many learned members of this industry, a computer with this capability doesn't exist. There's been no system on the market that has had the power and the software to deliver true multimedia at an affordable price, until right now" The article then states the price of a basic (16MHz) A3000 as $3,299 and that AmigaVision will be bundled with all A2000's and A3000's, and ALSO that: (Apple flame throwers ON) "Some observers have claimed that the Apple Macintosh would cost thousands of dollars more when outfitted for multimedia applications." The article concludes with some more prices/specs on the 16 and 25MHz models of the 3000 Oh, and while the flame thrower is still on, let me take aim at 'Big Blue' (or is that 'Blew') I know a poor misguided soul who recently pruchased a 'stock' PS/2 model 80. It cost him around $4,300. Well, I offered to set it up for him and lo and behold! I couldn't find the monitor! I had the CPU and keyboard unpacked, but the monitor was no where to be found. A quick look at the packing slip revealed that that $4,300 does NOT include the monitor (an extra $700+)!!! After getting over the initial shock, it occured to me that the IBM 'salesman' who sold the poor misguided soul this half a Piece of Sh.. (PS/2) ;-) never mentioned the fact that the monitor wasn't included in the price!!! You'd figure he'd let on that maybe a monitor would be a reccomended peripheral !! Hell, even the dudes behind the McDonalds counter ask "Would you like fries with that?" ;-) ;-) Regards, Jeff -- @xxxxx{==============- giacobbe@pilot.njin.net -==============}xxxxx@ | or | | giacobbe@apollo.montclair.edu | | | | "There can be only one..." - (Highlander) | @xxxxx{==============- -==============}xxxxx@
