I would like some help from the wise men of netland. I need advice about computer vision, more specifically what is a good cheap opto-receptor for making an artificial eye. The resolution needs to be enough to detect say something about the size of a ping-pong ball at 0.2-3.0 metres. I've thought of cheap second hand video cameras (colour is not needed) , any suggestions? No analysis of the image need be done by the receptor, it just needs to give an output that is analysable somehow. Cost is a bit of a problem, ideally less than $300 if possible. Also I would be grateful for any references to the latest work in computer vision. Responses via mail or on followups please.
