[comp.sys.amiga] Commodore and UNIX International: new membership

thad@cup.portal.com (Thad P Floryan) (05/04/90)

Well, time again for some more pleasant news about Commodore ...

In the latest issue of UNIX INTERNATIONAL GAZETTE (Vol.II, No.2), on page 14:

"Other companies most recently joing UNIX International are:

	Commodore International Ltd.

	Facom Center Association

	PICK Systems
"

CBM (and the AMIGA!) have now joined the ranks of:

88Open Consortium	Altos Computer Systems Amdahl Corp.

(There are MANY other members; the names above are the ones I recognized).

Gee. Only companies such as Apple and IBM haven't seen the light and are
still stuck on OSF, the so-called "other" UNIX. Well, what to expect,
when Apple's latest offering, AUX 2.0, is but 5 releases behind the current
REAL UNIX, and IBM only pays lip service to UNIX with its AIX. Also missing
from the UNIX International roster is the name Atari.

And let us not forget that Apple is no longer represented on the ANSI X3T9.2
SCSI Committee. The story is they "couldn't be bothered." It shows.

What a month! CBM debuting the A3000; a two-page spread in the Wall Street
Journal featuring the A3000; a 1/4 page ad from Quantum also in the Wall
Street Journal thanking Commodore for making Quantum a success (they NEVER
thanked Apple! :-), and now finding CBM amongst the ranks of the GREAT! And
today is only May 3. Whew, only 28 more days to go! :-)
