[comp.sys.amiga] Interface building, ignorant users, etc...

stefan@sherlock.cs.concordia.ca (BUCHHOLZ stefan) (05/06/90)

Ok, school is out and I can now finally start concentrating on
designing
a descent interface for our lab. I would really appreciate the input from
people who are doing/have done the same. After reviewing many packages, I have
come to the conclusion that Cando is perfect for the job, well almost anyways.

I have a few Q's. Can Transcript be launched so that it takes up its
own screen? The problem is the fact that I want to use a 640x200 as the
interface's screen. When the user hits the button for Transcript, it simply
opens onto the Workbench, but the user never gets to see it unless I make
the stack jump to a card which is on the workbench. Yes, I know there are ways
around this, but an easy solution would be to get Transcript to open onto a
screen of its own: that way the user sees it, or find a PD editor which is
just as good ( some are even better, I have seen) which runs on its own
screen. IT has to be simple! Users of this lab are mostly computer illiterate.

So much to think about. OH! this has been pissing me off for awhile,
how the ^%&%& do I disable the front/back gadgets??? People wonder why their
machine crash, but at rondom, if you check how many Propages they have going
at the same time, you wonder how the machine can take it at all! ( I have
seen 7 running at the same time!!!) Multitasking on the Amiga, if you pardon
my saying: is too *^(^ easy! Is there a PD program that will disable these
gadgets so that they don't wonder around exploring? I hate explorers...

Enough for now, these Q's may seem stupid to a few of you, but hey,
the Amiga is making inroads into classrooms everywhere around here and
think more and more of this will come up. I hope Commodore will come out with
a descent Multi-user system soon, as the lack of file-protection and the like
make it very difficult for the inexperienced( like me!) to build a system
like UNIX. Thanx for the replies, OH! one more:

I have the 2058 board with 2 megs on it. I will be purchasing an A2630
board in 3 weeks, can someone let me know what RAM will be recognized when
I boot with 00/30? ALSO, what happens if someone put 8 megs on the 2058,
if the 2630 already has 2, does it ignore the last 2 on the 2058?

					Merci Beaucoup! Stefy LePew
