Every time I hear the song "Memories" from the musical CATS, I could swear that the melody is some classical piece I have heard in the past. I looked at the sheet music and found no reference to a classical piece, but it isn't unusual for melodies to be transferred from classics to pop tunes. Does anyone else recognize this, and, if it is true, do they know the classical piece the melody came from? It nags at me every time I hear the song... Will

The name of the song is Memory, and it's not part of a classical piece
that I know of. It probably sounds familiar to you because so many
people have covered it in the past two years.
Barbra Streisand
Barry Manilow (only one to take it into the top40)
