[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga Multi-Media

n8735053@unicorn.WWU.EDU (Iain Davidson) (05/10/90)

Recently in the last few days the Seattle Times ran an Ad from Commodore.
Here's some quotes from it.....

[[[

This is a half-page ad with the text wrapped around a side-by-side
picture of the Amiga 2000HD, 2500, and 3000.
]]]

" B U Y N O W. W E P A Y Y O U L A T E R"

"Purchase an Amiga 2000, 2000HD, 2500 or the NEW 3000(*) along with a
Commodore monitor between now and June 30th an Commodore will send you
 a rebate check for $100. (**)"

"In the 60's, the watchword of the computer industry was data processing.
In the 70's, the watchword was word processing.
In the 80's, it was desktop publishing."

"The 90's? There's no doubt. The 90's will be the era of multimedia.
You will finally have all the tools of communication (video, text,
animation, color; and the sounds of music, effects, and voice) at your
 disposal, inexpensively and easily."

"Inexpensively because the price of an Amiga system, even without the
rebate, is within the reach of just about everyone who wants one. You
see, the groundwork technology for multimedia is already in place; i.e.
the operating system and the heart and soul of the Amiga (its custom-
ized chips that handle video, graphics, and sound) have already been
developed and have been proven in use by more than a million Amiga
 owners."

"Easily because of AmigaVision, the authoring system whose intuitive
icons and point and click mouse system turns the casual computer
user into a creative computer user and sophisticated computer user into
a creator of the first rank."

"For everyone who has to present and/or sell ideas, for everyone who has
ever yearned for a pratical way to make their abstract ideas real the
Amiga is not only the computer for the creative mind. It's also the
 computer with them in mind."

"CALL 1-800-627-9595.
We'll give you the name and address of the Amiga dealer nearest you.
One who will easily demostrate the wonders of the Amiga. And one who will
also show you how easy it is to get that $100 rebate."

"Amiga. The computer for the creative mind."

(*) Amiga 3000 to be available June.
(**) Doesn't apply to Educational discounts.

Comments:
For a multi-thousand dallor machine $100 is peanuts for a rebate.
Just think for most car rebates, they offer $500-$700-$1000 rebates.
Notice the catch... 3000 available in June, deal ends in June, you
are going to have to be fast on your feet to get the rebate on it. :-)
I gave them call and they answered on the second ring. She listed off
4 stores within my area in Bellingham, WA... all within a 30 mile radius.

What do you think? It is definitely a start in some good advertising !!!!

The best rebate system that I ever saw was done by Toshiba. The
SALESPERSON that sold a Toshiba 321 got $21 right from Toshiba, no
taxes taken out, etc. Sell a Toshiba 351, get a $51 check.

There wasn't an ethics problem for me because at the time they were
the printer I pushed over all the others anyhow. :-) It would be the
same for the Amiga... but I don't sell computers anymore.

Tom

P.S. I'm told that many more companies are doing this now.
