Just an idea concerning the not-existing-ideal-backup-program for the Amiga: I love the speed of Quarterback but hate the fact that you can't do compression with it. I don't have the money to buy a streamer and with a 170 MB drive taking backups to disks is really a pain. A good compression algorithm would have two advantages: a) less disks used b) less disk swaps Now, MRBackup does support 16bit compression, although I'd love to see a better algorithm (if that's possible), e.g. like the one used it Zip - fast and effective. However, the program only uses the old file system which makes the program unbearable slow (at least for me) - we've already discussed this matter. Now what about a handler that would give you the possibility to save data to a disk format similar fast to that used by Quarterback? You can enter the device name in MRBackup, so you'd just enter e.g. dx0: and voil`! Compression and very fast disk access. Does such a thing exist? It could be used for several other purposes, too. -- ------------------------------------ Chris Brand - wizard@sosaria.imp.com "Justice is the possession and doing of what one is entitled to" - Platon ------------------------------------
