Hi! I have a question about furniture refinishing. My wife and I recently bought a used Sugarhill pine dining table which turned out to have a problem -- anything put on the surface would stick and/or leave a residue or ring. It turns out the old owner had refinished it with shellac; or refinished part of it, that is. We decided to restore the piece; however after stripping the shellac and stain from the main table top and starting the leaves, we discovered that the leaves and pedestal still had their original factory finish -- many coats of furniture wax! If you've ever tried to remove this stuff before you can appreciate the difficulties we are now up against. This raises my question: is there an effective, relatively easy way to remove a good wax finish without damaging the wood? Any suggestion would be appreciated. We would also enjoy any good reference texts on furniture refinishing anyone could suggest. Please respond by mail and thanks in advance! Eric Asbeck {harpo, houxm, houxf}!5941ux!ela (201) 949-3162
