[comp.sys.amiga] CLI and SetPrompt

bscott@nyx.UUCP (Ben Scott) (06/03/90)

While playing around with SetPrompt, which allows multicolor/style prompts
and CLI text/background combinations to be easily used, I found a combination
I quite liked. This program, on exit, outputs the command line necessary to
recreate the configuration set from within the (mouse-controlled) program. The
command line utilizes Setprompt again, and does not go to ANSI sequences
directly. However, it works, right? Well...

My problem is that I can't get it to start up correctly. I put the command
sequence in my shell-startup (which is getting BIG, geez). It is supposed to
create a white prompt just like my usual one, yellow CLI text, on a black
background (which looks very good on my light gray WB screen, suprisingly),
but it doesn't. White prompt, yellow-on-black CLI text but the rest of the
screen is the usual gray. When I type "clear" (using "alias clear echo "^L"
noline" as has been gone over exhaustively here) it DOES work, setting the
background of the whole window black. When I put "clear" as the last command
of my shell-startup, it doesn't "catch". When I put the echo command in it's
raw state at the end of the shell startup it still doesn't go. Basically, it
seems as though I will have to type "clear" manually every time I start a CLI,
which is unacceptable. I've tried running the echo command, and even runback,
but no workie. Can anyone tell me how to make a black-background-with-yellow-
text-and-a-white-prompt come up on a shell at startup time? I'm using (among
other things) ASH, the ARP shell, MachII v2.5a because I don't like 2.6, and
CB 1.1.

In other news, I have heard that a company will demo a new product at the
impending CES: An IBM compatible computer which can play Nintendo cartridges.
To quote David Letterman: "Civilization as we know it is coming to an end."
